Eligibility

A Medical Attendant Visa is issued to family members or individuals accompanying a patient traveling to India for medical treatment. This visa is linked to the validity of the patient's Medical Visa.

Up to two attendants or close relatives can apply for this type of visa. To be eligible, the applicant must submit a letter from a recognized or specialized hospital/treatment center in India, clearly stating that the patient requires support and including the attendant's name in the document.

Medical Examination Guidelines for Visa Applicants (Canada, Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand)

The medical tests conducted align with the requirements set by immigration authorities of countries such as Canada, Australia, the UK, the USA, and New Zealand. Additional investigations may be required based on their medical protocols.

Important Instructions for Applicants:

  • Carry your original passport, along with two photocopies, and copies of all previous and current medical records, including medications, prescriptions, and vaccination history (if applicable).
  • Eyeglass/contact lens users should bring them along for the eye exam.
  • No fasting is needed — there are no dietary restrictions before your medical check-up.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry, valuables, or expensive accessories during your visit.
  • Only minor or dependent applicants may be accompanied by an attendant; others must enter alone.
  • To minimize your wait time, please schedule an appointment in advance.
  • The entire medical evaluation may take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
  • Pregnant applicants may choose to undergo a chest X-ray with protective shielding (double lead cover) or defer the X-ray until after delivery. For U.S. immigration, a chest X-ray is mandatory.
  • It is recommended to consult your gynecologist before the medical examination for guidance regarding the X-ray.

Eligibility

International travellers whose sole objective for visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives, attending a short-term yoga programme, short-term courses on local languages, music, dance, arts & crafts, cooking, medicine, etc. (which should not be a formal or structured course/programme and should not exceed 6 months duration and should not result in a qualifying certificate/diploma), voluntary work of short duration (for a maximum period of one month, which does not involve any monetary payment or consideration), medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine, business purposes, as an attendant to an e-Medical Visa holder, or attending a conference/seminar/workshop organized by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments or UT Administrations, their subordinate/attached organizations, PSUs, or private conferences organized by private persons/companies/organizations.

  • Applicant’s passport should have at least six months validity at the time of applying for an e-Visa.
  • International travellers should have a return ticket or onward journey ticket, along with sufficient funds to spend during their stay in India.
  • International travellers holding Pakistani passports or of Pakistani origin must apply for a regular visa at the Indian Mission.
  • Not available to Diplomatic/Official passport holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders.
  • Not available to individuals endorsed on a parent’s or spouse’s passport. Each individual must have a separate passport.
  • Not available to international travel document holders other than passport holders.
